Summer Training programs are generally longer and allow us to delve into more progressions and more skill-specific training. Power Skating and Edge Work remain the foundation, but increased frequency and duration of training allows us to tackle more curriculum. There is an increased focus on Stickhandling and Passing with Movement and specific Offensive Skating and Stickhandling sequences.
Here at Driscoll Skating & Skills, we strongly believe the Spring and Summer months should be dedicated to individual skill development. Skating is by far the most important skill in the game of hockey, and as the speed of the game increases at all levels, the importance of Skating will continue to be the most important skill.
Philosophically, we are focused on helping hockey players grow their passion for the game of hockey. Immersing the players in a positive hockey-rich environment and teaching them the most critical skills will boost their self-confidence and help them grow their passion for the game. Our coaches have had success at the collegiate and professional level, but most importantly they have demonstrated to me that they have the willingness and ability to share their love of the game with our players.
Boston Sports Institute | Wellesley:
Wellesley Summer training sessions are 95 minutes in length. The longer sessions allow us to tackle more curriculum and more advanced progressions in Power Skating, Stickhandling with Movement, and Passing. Fewer players on the ice (maximum 24) will allow us to work in smaller groups when necessary.
Thayer Sports Center | Braintree:
We will teach the Core Power Skating program and Stickhandling and Passing with Movement. Six-week program beginning July 7th. Mondays and Wednesdays for older players (ages 12+) and Tuesdays and Thursdays for younger players (ages 6-12). Noon – 1:20 pm.
Boch Ice Center | Dedham:
Teaching Core Power Skating and Stickhandling and Passing with Movement. Longer training sessions will allow for more Stickhandling and Passing with Movement and Overspeed Training.
Valley Forum 2 | Malden:
At the Valley Forum 2, we teach the Core Power Skating program and Stickhandling and Passing with Movement. Longer training sessions will allow for more Stickhandling and Passing with Movement and Overspeed Training.
Warrior Ice Arena | Boston:
Due to COVID-19, we have changed to two-hour sessions Monday through Friday at Warrior. The curriculum will feature one hour of Power Skating and Edge Work and one hour of Stickhandling with movement.
Nantucket Ice Community Rink | Nantucket:
The curriculum will feature one hour of Power Skating and Edge Work and one hour of Stickhandling with movement.
